Tips for a Welcoming Guest Bedroom
Many homes have a dedicated room for guests, and it’s really beneficial to do so. There’s nothing more inconvenient than having friends and family over to stay, and them having to make their own way home afterwards because there’s nowhere for them to crash. Guest bedrooms are perfect for adding a little extra to your home, and getting the most out of every room. One thing that many people are guilty of is allowing the guest bedroom to slowly become a storage space for those items that seem to accumulate from nowhere, and have no specific place to live. A result of this means when it comes to hosting for friends and family, there’s a sudden rush to clear out the ‘Spare Bedroom’ and make it suitable to accommodate your guests. If, however, you design the perfect guest bedroom, constantly looking stylish and neat, you may be a little more reluctant to pop an old exercise bike in there and use the garage instead – this way you can show off your gorgeous guest room whenever you please, as well as knowing it will be looking fantastic for when your guests plan a visit.
When you design a guest bedroom there are a few things to consider, as you need to ensure your guest bedroom is inviting as well as homely. You want to know that your guests are going to be comfortable and feel warm and at home, as this is how you would want to feel if you were to stay at someone else’s home. When deciding on the colour of your guest bedroom, neutral colours are the perfect option. You don’t want to overwhelm your guests, or create a room that is too lively and bold, as the atmosphere wants to be relaxing and cosy. You can always add splashes of colour when you introduce features such as cushions and other items such as these. Your furniture is another key thing to consider, as you want to ensure your guests are comfortable, but also have the right facilities to live comfortably. A great example of this would be introducing a beautiful Oak suit to your guest’s bedroom, as oak is a soft and warm material that will create a welcoming and stylish feel to the room. Introducing furnishings such as an Oak Wardrobe, Oak Chest of Drawers or even an Oak Dressing Table will give your guests the ability to live comfortably, having space to store their clothing, shoes etc., whilst also being able to work or have a space to do their makeup. If Oak isn’t your cup of tea, there are so many other furnishing sets that you can find, and having a set will really bring the room together and emphasise the style and sophistication.
Your guest bedroom will be your guests space for however long they stay with you, which means it needs to be practical and suitable. Think of all of the little things you may need on en evening or morning, just before you go to bed and when you wake up. Including items such as an extension cable so your guests don’t have to clamber to the nearest socket to plug in their phones, a clock to ensure your guests can see exactly what time it is, and a bedside light, which sound obvious, however you don’t want your guests to have to worry about hobbling across the room in the dark to switch off the main light and the stumble back to the bed in the dark! Simple things like these will really make your guests stay pleasant and they’ll be made to feel at home straight away. You could also include items such as a vase of fresh flowers, to brighten up the room and also add to the general aroma. Similarly, you could include some scented candles, to allow your guests to lay back and relax whilst they wind down at the end of the day. Books are another great feature to add to a guest bedroom, or magazines if you’d prefer, some light reading for your guests to keep them busy and give them something to do if they wake up a little earlier than hoped!
With all of these tips to creating the perfect guest bedroom in mind, there is one more thing to consider, which is possibly the most important. How you dress the bed is vital, you need to ensure your guests have a comfortable, clean and fresh set of bed sheets with enough pillows to sleep peacefully. Having extra pillows in the wardrobe and an additional throw draped over the bottom of the bed will give your guests the ability to get comfortable and not have to worry about bothering you for extra bits and pieces. Making sure the bedding is fresh is always important, as you want them to feel welcome and relaxed.
