How to Make Your Bedroom Ideal for Sleeping
For most of us, sleep is just the body shutting down. That could not be further from the truth. Sleep, actually, is one of the most important functions of the human body. While we go to sleep, our bodies begin to rest and repair any damages. They create new cells and essentially restore all that has been lost while we were awake, resulting in us being ready for the next day ahead.
Lack of sleep is one of the biggest threats to our health. Chronic sleeplessness can lead to serious health issues including hypertension and heart diseases. Unfortunately, modern technology has not made it any easy for us to get our Z’s. On the contrary, we are hounded night after night by light pollution and the distraction from many of our smart gadgets, putting our minds into overdrive and causing us to lose important sleep.
Thankfully, popping pills is not the only solution. The easiest way to improve your sleep is to turn your bedroom into a sleep-conducive haven. How do you exactly do that? We have come up with a few ways:
1. Make your bed comfy

A cluttered room creates noise in our mind. It makes us think of things other than sleep. So clean up, keep your walls bare, and leave the motivational quotes to your study or living room. Remove excess furniture and get rid of any clutter – from clothes to work stuff and media players. If having a tiny work space inside your bedroom is unavoidable, make sure to de-clutter your work area before going to bed so it does not disturb the ambience of your room.
3. Choose cool hues
What we see affects how we think. If your room is full of bright, hot, and loud colors, your mind will stay awake. Mute down the colors of your room – choose from neutral tones to cool blues. 4. Keep the room dark and cool
The human body and its circadian rhythm is designed to go to rest at night, in the dark, and the body gradually drops in temperature as it prepares to rest. If your room is full of bright objects – television, computer monitor, digital clocks, and bright smart phones, your body will fight against its sleepiness because it will think that it’s too bright to sleep. Higher temperatures can keep you up too. Dim everything and simulate night-time and draw the shades if you live in the city to keep the street lights out of your room. Lower the room temperature and wait for sleepiness to come.
5. Put your senses to sleep
Putting your body to sleep is a multi-sensory ordeal. Make sure that everything you hear and everything you smell create ideal conditions for sleeping. Turn off the loud blaring music and close the windows to keep noise pollution from the outdoors at a bare minimum. If you’re the kind of person who cannot sleep in total silence, bust out the white noise machines (or download similar apps). Give your room a lavender scent with perfumes, scented waters, essential oils, or by even using lavender-scented fabric perfume for your bedding. Lavender is known for its calming effect so it should help you sleep more comfortably and easily.
